Blocks housing grants to sanctuary jurisdictions
States and local governments that limit sharing immigration information with federal officials would no longer get housing grant money, starting 180 days after the bill becomes law.
- Applies to any grant money handed out by the Housing and Urban Development Department
- A sanctuary jurisdiction has a law or policy that limits sharing someone's immigration status with other governments
- It also covers places that limit helping with federal requests to hold or report immigrants in custody
- The housing secretary would check with the homeland security secretary to decide which places qualify
