Requires mail ballots to arrive by election day
For federal elections starting in 2027, absentee and mail-in ballots would have to reach election officials by the time polls close on election day to be counted.
- Applies to primaries, runoffs, and special elections for federal office
- States could not count any ballot that arrives after polls close
- Ballots from military and overseas voters are left out of the deadline
- Takes effect for federal elections held in 2027 and later
