Creates mental health fellowships for first responders
Sets up a pilot program that awards fellowships, which may include stipends, for extra training in mental health and addiction care for workers who treat firefighters, police and other emergency responders.
- Fellowships are for training after a bachelor's degree, including master's and doctoral degrees
- Training fields include psychiatry, nursing, social work, psychology and addiction counseling
- Up to $10 million a year would be allowed for the program from 2028 through 2033
- The program must start within one year of the bill becoming law, with reports to Congress after 2 and 5 years
