H.R. 10661

Urges colleges to drop justice questions from admissions

Tells the Education Department to give colleges advice on taking criminal and juvenile justice questions off admissions applications, plus training and a resource center.

  • Colleges are advised to decide whether justice history questions are needed for admission decisions
  • If questions stay, schools are advised to ask only after an admission decision is made
  • Schools that deny or rescind admission based only on that history are advised to give notice within 30 days
  • The Education Department would offer training and run a resource center on the topic
