H.R. 10809

Makes data centers pay their own power costs

Requires large data centers to cover the full cost of the power plants and lines built to serve them, instead of sharing those costs with other electricity customers.

  • Covers computing sites that use 20 megawatts or more of power, including ones built in phases
  • Utilities could not add those costs to other customers' bills
  • Sites keep paying for facilities even if they end their power contract early
  • Applies only to sites connecting after the law passes; existing deals stay in place
