Changes how misused veterans benefits are paid back
Changes how the Department of Veterans Affairs repays benefits that someone managing a veteran's money misused, and who gets the money if the veteran has died.
- The department must set ways and deadlines to decide if it was at fault for the misuse
- It cannot delay repayment just because a decision about its own fault is still pending
- If the veteran dies before repayment, the money goes to a surviving beneficiary
- It does not have to decide fault in every case of misuse
