Lets FDA destroy risky imported food and drugs
Lets the Food and Drug Administration order the destruction of imported food, drugs, devices, tobacco, or cosmetics that are refused entry and pose a significant public health concern.
- Items could be destroyed instead of being shipped back out of the country
- Owners must destroy the item within 90 days and pay the cost
- Moving or exporting an item under a destruction order is banned, with fines or up to a year in prison
- The agency must write rules giving owners notice and a chance to be heard first
