Screens student aid applications for identity fraud
Requires the Education Department to check every federal student aid application for identity fraud and hold aid until flagged applicants prove who they are.
- Starting October 1, 2026, each submitted aid application is reviewed for identity fraud
- Flagged applicants and the schools listed on their form must be told extra checks are needed
- Schools may not release federal aid until the applicant's identity is confirmed in person or by live video
- The Education Department must write rules for how schools carry out the checks
