H.Res. 1630

Calls for federal support for disconnected young people

Says Congress should focus federal job, education and mental health programs on young people ages 16 to 24 who are not in school or work, and urges agencies to prioritize them.

  • About 4.3 million people ages 16 to 24, or 10.7 percent, were out of school and work in 2024
  • Only about 140,000 of them are served each year by the main federal workforce programs
  • Says keeping a young person connected adds about $11,900 a year in federal revenue
  • Asks the Labor, Education and Health and Human Services departments to make them a priority
