Restricts credit report sharing for mortgage offers

Limits when credit reporting agencies may give a consumer's credit report to a third party for a mortgage deal, unless the consumer agreed or that party already handles the mortgage or banking.

  • Reports may be shared only for a firm offer of credit or insurance
  • The third party must document the consumer's consent, or have originated or service the mortgage
  • A current specified banking relationship with the consumer also counts
  • Takes effect 180 days after the bill becomes law
