Makes ATM robbery and tampering federal crimes
Creates federal crimes for robbing or attacking people using or servicing cash machines, and for breaking into ATMs, even when the machine is not on bank property.
- Robbing or intimidating someone using or servicing an ATM carries up to 20 years in prison
- Breaking into an ATM and taking over $1,000 carries up to 10 years; $1,000 or less up to 1 year
- Assaulting someone during an ATM crime carries up to 25 years; killing someone carries up to life
- Covers ATMs not located on bank property and those not owned by a bank
