Blocks removal of ocean monitoring instruments
Bars the National Science Foundation from spending federal money to remove or shrink Ocean Observatories Initiative instruments until it finishes a full review of the program.
- The science agency said in May 2026 it would remove all underwater gear from four of five sites
- Covers instruments off Oregon, Washington, Alaska, North Carolina, and in the Irminger Sea
- Requires operations to keep running, even at sites already shut down, until the review ends
- Review must involve scientists and coastal communities
