Requires detention of immigrants charged with certain crimes
Requires federal immigration officials to hold people who are in the country unlawfully and are arrested for or charged with theft, shoplifting, burglary, assaulting an officer, or crimes causing death or serious injury.
- Applies to people in the U.S. unlawfully who are charged with, arrested for, convicted of, or admit to listed crimes
- Listed crimes include burglary, theft, larceny, shoplifting, and assault of a law enforcement officer
- Also covers crimes that cause death or serious bodily injury to another person
- Lets state governments sue the federal government over certain immigration decisions or failures
