Raises penalties for unpaid wages and overtime
Adds a right to full pay under contracts or wage laws and increases fines and prison time for employers who willfully fail to pay wages or overtime.
- Employers must pay at least the higher of a contract or union agreement rate or federal or state wage rate
- Willful unpaid wages over $1,000 can bring a fine, up to 5 years in prison, or both
- Willful unpaid wages of $1,000 or less can bring a fine, up to 1 year in prison, or both
- Fines collected would go to the Labor Department office that enforces wage laws
