Extends police death benefits to retired officers
Retired law enforcement officers who are killed or permanently disabled in a targeted attack tied to their police service, or their families, could get federal death and disability benefits.
- Covers officers who left their agency in good standing
- Applies to deaths or permanent total disability from a targeted attack because of their police service
- Applies to attacks on or after January 1, 2012
- Also covers claims already pending when the law takes effect
