Vets applicants for rural broadband funding
Requires the Federal Communications Commission to screen companies applying for government money to build broadband in rural, high-cost areas before awarding funds.
- Applicants must show they have the technical, financial and operational ability to build and run the network
- The agency must look at whether applicants followed the rules of other government broadband programs
- Money can only go to applicants that meet the new standards
- The agency must set penalties for applicants that default during the review
