Names May 2025 National Wildfire Preparedness Month and calls for more awareness of wildfire threats and of steps communities can take to prepare.

• From 2015 to 2024, wildfires burned an average of 7.5 million acres a year in the U.S
• Nearly 85 percent of wildland fires in the U.S. are caused by people
• Urges steps like fire-resistant building materials, clearing brush and planning evacuations
• Notes federal wildfire fighting costs over $2.5 billion a year
