Designates May 2025 as ALS Awareness Month
The Senate names May 2025 as ALS Awareness Month and states its support for faster access to treatment and for finding the causes of the disease.
- More than 5,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year, about 15 a day
- Life expectancy after diagnosis is between 2 and 5 years
- The cause is unknown in up to 90 percent of cases, and there is no cure
- Military veterans are more likely to be diagnosed than people who never served
