The Senate observes the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, remembers the 1,833 people who died, and notes progress in rebuilding the Gulf Coast.
- Katrina struck the Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005, killing 1,833 people
- Damage in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida was estimated at $161 billion
- More than 1 million residents were displaced and more than 200,000 homes destroyed
- The Senate says more work remains on challenges caused by the storm
