Honors World War II veterans on 80th anniversary of war's end
The Senate honors veterans of the Pacific and European theaters and marks 80 years since Japan's surrender ended World War II.
- Notes Japan signed the surrender aboard the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945
- Says over 16,300,000 people served in the U.S. military during the war
- Mourns the more than 200,000 who died in the 1945 Battle of Okinawa
- Reaffirms the 1951 Treaty of San Francisco, which formally ended the state of war
