A Senate resolution backing a yearly day to raise awareness of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, and calling suicide a serious public health problem.
- Notes more than 48,800 suicide deaths in 2024, about one every 11 minutes
- Says suicide was the 10th leading cause of death in the country overall that year
- The 988 line has taken about 26.2 million calls, texts and chats since July 2022
- Supports expanding mental health services and crisis programs
